Facet Tumbler & Coaster

$58.00

Smoke-grey glass blown into an eight-sided mould, so the wall is a ring of flat facets rather than a curve. It sits on a coaster of blue-grey limestone that matches the tint.

Best for: A short whisky over one large ice cube, or water at a desk. At 270 ml it is a little smaller than the Rib Tumbler. The grey tint makes a drink look darker than it is; if you want to see the colour of what you are pouring, the Heavy-Base Tumbler is clear.

Specification

  • Glass: Mouth-blown smoke-grey glass, eight flat facets
  • Capacity: About 270 ml to the brim
  • Size: About 9.5 cm tall, 7.5 cm across the rim
  • Coaster: Honed blue-grey limestone, 10 cm across, cork underside
  • In the box: One tumbler and one coaster
  • Made for Jemalrix to our own design

Sizes and capacities are approximate: blown glass varies a little from piece to piece.

About the glass

Every piece is mouth-blown, one at a time, so no two are quite the same. Expect tiny seed bubbles in the glass, a rim that is very slightly uneven, and a few millimetres of difference in height between two of the same piece. Those are what blown glass looks like, not faults. A crack, a chip or a sharp edge is a fault, and we replace it.

The coaster

The coaster is honed blue-grey limestone, matte, with faint pale flecks in the stone. It is 10 cm across and about 1 cm thick, finished smooth on top with a cork disc on the underside so it will not scratch the table. Natural stone varies: yours will have its own pattern of pits or veins. Wet rings wipe off; leave it to dry before stacking.

Care

Hand wash in warm water with a little washing-up liquid and dry with a soft cloth. Not for the dishwasher, the microwave or the freezer, and do not pour boiling water into a cold glass. Full details in Care & Materials.
